Oldest Continuous Member of 75 Years

Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce records show that Parmenter Insurance Agency, Inc., joined the Chamber in September, 1940, therefore having just completed 75 years of membership. Sherman Parmenter, the founder of the Parmenter Insurance Agency, Inc., also served as President of the Board in 1953.  Both friends and clients of Mr. Parmenter regarded him as a true gentleman; honest, knowledgeable and dedicated to the needs of his clients. Sherman Parmenter served his community well, not only through the Chamber and his support of numerous charitable causes but as past American Legion Commander, President of the Rotary Club of Cartersville and School Board member.

His sons, Scott and Guy, both past Vice-Presidents of the Chamber, have also distinguished themselves through various activities and accomplishments. Scott received the 1992 Chamber Small Business Person of the Year Award, the 1994 Chamber Leadership Award and as a 1996 graduate of Leadership Bartow. Scott, is also a three time Past President of the Rotary Club of Bartow County and a Rotary District Governor of District 6910 in 2002-2003. Guy, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Cartersville, and Past President of the Etowah Valley Historical Society also received the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Etowah Valley Historical Society. 

Phillip Jehlen, Scott’s son-in-law has been working in the business since 2012. Phillip is a member of the Etowah Rotary Club and a 2015 graduate of Leadership Bartow.

Parmenter Insurance Agency as it enters its 76th year as a Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce member continues the tradition of quality service to both their clients and community. Guy Parmenter shared the following, “It is an honor for Parmenter Insurance Agency to be the oldest continuous member of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce. Having that honor speaks volumes for our agency ownership and staff as respects continuous service to this community.”
