Cartersville Downtown Development Authority Announces 2013 “Sample Your City”
Progressive format features many downtown restaurants and specialty stores for two day event
CARTERSVILLE, GA – For the second consecutive year, Cartersville Downtown Development Authority will highlight many restaurants and specialty stores in historic downtown Cartersville offering a variety of culinary delights. Sample Your City, held October 3 and 4 from 2:00-7:00 PM each day, will feature 11 downtown businesses. The first Sample Your City, unveiled in October of 2012, was met with huge success. The event allows those who purchase a $10 ticket in advance an opportunity to visit participating downtown restaurants and retailers to sample not only their culinary offerings, but the overall atmosphere of each location.
States Tara Currier, manager of Cartersville Downtown Development Authority, “the first Sample Your City exceeded expectations and received rave reviews from the restaurants and food retailers who participated, as well as patrons who purchased tickets.”
This year’s samplers will enjoy food and beverage offerings from 11 downtown restaurants and retailers including: Agan’s Bakery, Coconut’s Ice Cream, Culinaria, E Street Tavern, Findley’s Butcher Shop, Jefferson’s, Louie’s Café, Meg Pie, Quizno’s, Swheat Market and The City Cellar & Loft.
The unique food event is unlike many other “Taste of” events, in that patrons visit the actual location of each participating venue. This allows people to experience more than just one sense (taste) – but to also smell, touch and see what each particular location has to offer.
One local resident, Mr. Seth Hopkins, stated after last year’s Sample Your City, “My son Stephen and I enjoyed Sample Your City as a unique father/son experience. We attempted to hit every location in one evening, but that proved to be undoable because we were enjoying the food, friendly people and atmosphere at each stop. It was much more enjoyable than having everybody in one place, it felt like a scavenger hunt. We each visited places we had not been before and places we had not visited in a long time. We also learned about menu items and types of food we did not realize were available downtown. One place did such a good job selling us we came back the next night to eat off the menu. It was a great way to learn more about what is here in our back yard.”
In addition to giving samples from their menu, many of the participating businesses will also have specials for Sample Your City cardholders. Tickets for Sample Your City are $10 per person, and can be purchased beginning September 10 at the Downtown Cartersville Welcome Center, located in the old Train Depot at One Friendship Plaza. The Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM – 4:00 pm, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Many participating venues will also have tickets available for purchase.
Cash only will be accepted. The ticket is good for one sample at each location and may vary from one item to up to several items, depending on location.
