    Event Description:
Ground-Penetrating Radar at the Leake Site:
    Investigations, Results and Interpretations

On Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at noon, Pamela Baughman, Senior Archaeologist with the Georgia Department of Transportation, will discuss the ground-penetrating radar project at the Leake Site.

This presentation will detail the results of recent geophysical investigations at the Leake Site in Bartow County, Georgia. Ground penetrating radar has been used to investigate several areas of the site which are known to contain numerous archaeological features, including the Middle Woodland Swift Creek midden, Mound A and the adjacent Late Mississippian village, as well as a purported semi-circular ditch enclosure. Results of the ground penetrating radar will be compared to the results of previous survey, testing, and mitigation excavations in order to contextualize the anomalies.  This program coincides with the museum’s current feature exhibition, “Pieces of the Past: Bartow’s Leake Site,” sponsored by Century Bank of Georgia.

This Lunch and Learn will take place at the Bartow History Museum located at 4 E. Church Street in downtown Cartersville.  Parking is available next to the building.  The lecture is free to members and included with the price of admission for not-yet members.  Guests are invited to bring a lunch beginning at 11:45 a.m., and the program will begin at noon.  For more information on this and other BHM programs, call 770-382-3818, ext. 6288 or visit our website at www.bartowhistorymuseum.org.
