Every year, an increasing number of newcomer students enroll in U.S schools. Their native and cultural background are important for their identity. One way teachers can empathize and connect newcomer students is by understanding the culture where they come from and some of the challenges they face as they prepare to enter American schools. Join this FREE workshop led by
OLA Language School's director William Carvajal who will discuss key elements of the Hispanic Culture and help you prepare to better serve newcomers in your classroom.
Workshop Topics Include:
- Who are the Hispanic/Latinos? - Demographics in the State Georgia
- Religion and the family in the Latino culture
- Time perception, sense of space, & language and culture
- Latino Students: Cultural "do's and don'ts."
- Bridging the language and cultural gaps to empathize and connect with your ELLs
- Q&A
The principles learned in this workshop are applicable in any k-12 US classroom.
