Government Affairs meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month to hear from someone who has particular insight in an angle of the economic growth and development of our business community.
This week's speaker is Elmer Stancil. He is the government relations and policy director at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), the state's lead governmental organization for promoting, marketing and supporting economic growth. Mr. Stancil serves as a liaison between the department and state, local, and federal governments. He is an advocate on behalf of the economic development community including the global commerce, film and tourism industries. He is responsible for identifying legislative opportunities and challenges as well as policy solutions for positive economic growth in Georgia. Elmer joined the department in April 2007 and has previously held positions with GDEcD in the Commissioner's Office as well as the Global Commerce division.
Before joining GDEcD, Elmer worked at the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) where he served on the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Georgia Restaurant Association. He also worked with the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association during past Legislative Sessions.
A native of Watkinsville, Georgia, Elmer holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Georgia.
