Matt Pearce is a Business Consultant with the Rome office of The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center. In this role, he helps business owners address the many issues that they confront in today's increasingly complex business environment. He works with businesses throughout the 13 counties that comprise the Northwest Georgia region of the SBDC.
Matt's background has prepared him well for his current role with the SBDC. After completing graduate school, Matt held financial management positions with companies in the computer industry over a thirteen year period. This experience included positions in operating units as well as on the corporate finance staff. He was later the Controller of a freight and shipping company.
Matt operated his own business for eight years. So, he understands the ups and downs of small business ownership. He has gone through the process of buying property, building a facility, getting financing, hiring and firing, managing inventory, and working with customers and suppliers.
At the SBDC, he spends most of his time working one-on-one with business owners. However, there is another important role that he performs as part of UGA's Public Service & Outreach division: training seminars for business owners.
Matt is a native of South Carolina and the son of a career Air Force officer.
