WALESKA, GA – What happens when The Great Gatsby meets big band swing? The result is The Texas Gypsies, and they will bring their unique sound to the Falany Performing Arts Center on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The Texas Gypsies band is a collection of seasoned players comprised of Grammy-award winners and musicians who have backed many of today’s top jazz, swing music and pop performers. Some of these acts include The Blues Brothers, the Jacksons, Paul McCartney and Winds, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Barbara Mandrell.
“The roaring twenties will be in full swing at the Falany,” said Jessica Akers, director of the Falany Performing Arts Center. “It’s a lively, fun show that features the music of several bygone eras.”
The Texas Gypsies is known for its unique take on classic jazz and swing music from the 1920s Gatsby era to the 1940s big band sound. They also perform the Parisian swing or gypsy jazz and the western or Texas swing sound. The band mixes violin, horns, guitars, brass and drums to create their own eclectic style.
